We all know we shouldn’t use those plastic bags from the supermarkets and fruit and vegetable shops that have only a single use but sometimes its the easiest way to get our shopping home.
Here is an easy knitting pattern for you to make your own bags.

Materials
4ply wool or cotton yarn. Several bags can be made from one ball of yarn.
5mm to 6mm needles, depending on how big you would like the holes.
Bag size: small (medium, large)

Note that there will always be the same number of stitches on each row as for every stitch you decrease (K2together) you will make another one (yarn over needle, knit into next stitch).
Cast on 40 (50, 60) stitches, knit two rows.
Pattern Row 1: K1, (K2together, yarn over needle, knit into next stitch) to last stitch, K1.
Pattern Row 2: Knit
Pattern Row 3: K1, (yarn over needle, knit into next stitch, K2together,) to last stitch, K1.
Pattern Row 4: Knit
Repeat the last four rows 6 (8, 10) times.
Knit two rows.
Cast off.
Fold the work in half and stitch down the side and along the cast on edge. Leave the cast off edge open to form a bag.
Plait together 6 strands of wool or cotton and thread through the top row of holes at the bag opening to form a tie. Knot the end of the tie together.
